Hotel Everest View & Syangboche

One of the world's highest hotels, on the Syangboche ridge above Namche, with a terrace panorama of Everest and Ama Dablam.

Hotel Everest View, on the Syangboche ridge above Namche Bazaar at around 3,880m, is one of the highest-placed hotels in the world and the most famous viewpoint stop on an acclimatization day. Its terrace looks straight out at Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam — a panorama that draws trekkers up from Namche for a coffee and a long, slow look.

What to expect

The walk climbs past the Syangboche airstrip (3,780m) to the ridge, where the hotel's restaurant and open terrace frame the Khumbu's great peaks. On a clear morning before the cloud builds, it is one of the best, most accessible Everest views in the region. You do not need to be a guest — day visitors are welcome for tea, coffee or a meal while taking in the view.

Opened in the early 1970s, the hotel was built to put the Everest panorama within reach of visitors who could fly in to the little Syangboche strip rather than trek for days. That history is part of its fame, but the altitude is also a caution: arriving here too fast, before acclimatizing, is risky, which is why most trekkers visit on foot from Namche as a day trip rather than flying straight up to sleep.

Making it a loop

The terrace is the natural high point of the classic Namche rest-day circuit. From here you can drop onto the plateau to the Sherpa villages of Khumjung and Khunde, visit the Everest View Point on the way up or down, and return to Namche to sleep low — a full, rewarding day that helps your body adjust.

Good to know

  • Altitude: Around 3,880m — climb high, then sleep low in Namche.
  • Timing: Go early; mornings are clearest before the cloud rolls in.
  • Make a loop: Combine it with the Everest View Point hike and the Sherpa villages of Khumjung and Khunde for the classic rest-day circuit.

This is a centrepiece of any acclimatization plan — see our guide to day hikes from Namche and the wider Everest region treks. Because it sits high, read up on altitude sickness in Nepal, and start from the Namche Bazaar travel guide for the overview.
