Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary

A 7-day Langtang Valley itinerary from Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa, with altitudes, walking hours and an acclimatisation day.

The classic Langtang Valley trek itinerary runs seven days from Kathmandu, climbing over three days from Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa at about 3,870 m, with an acclimatisation day for the Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri viewpoints before a two-day descent. It is the easiest big trek to reach from the capital, needs no flight, and rewards you with a glaciated valley and rich Tamang culture. Here is the day-by-day plan with altitudes and walking hours.

The walk in

From Syabrubesi the trail follows the Langtang Khola through dense forest to Lama Hotel, then climbs past the rebuilt Langtang Village — the settlement destroyed by a landslide in the 2015 earthquake and since reconstructed nearby. The valley opens out toward Kyanjin Gompa, with Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) dominating the skyline.

Kyanjin Gompa and the acclimatisation day

Kyanjin Gompa is the trek's high base, home to an old monastery and a local yak-cheese factory. The acclimatisation day is the highlight: a morning climb to Kyanjin Ri (around 4,300 m) for a panorama of the surrounding peaks, or the longer push to Tserko Ri (around 4,985 m) for the broadest views. Take these slowly and read about altitude sickness in Nepal first.

Getting there and permits

The trek starts with a road journey of about seven hours from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi; see getting around Nepal for transport options. You need the Langtang National Park entry permit and a TIMS card, both quick to arrange in Kathmandu, plus a licensed guide on this route.

How it compares

Langtang is the standout first big trek near Kathmandu.
