Daman View Tower
The ridge-top tower with telescopes that commands Daman's Dhaulagiri-to-Everest panorama.
The Daman view tower is the reason most travellers make the long, winding trip up the Tribhuvan Highway. A simple concrete tower on the ridge above the village, fitted with mounted telescopes, it commands an open platform from which the Himalaya panorama sweeps in a single unbroken arc — said to be the widest in Nepal — from Dhaulagiri in the west across Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and Langtang to Gauri Shankar and, far to the east, the Everest group.
How to do it
From the cluster of lodges at Daman the tower is a short uphill walk of a few minutes. Set off in the dark with a torch so you are on the platform before first light, when the highest summits catch the gold before the sun clears the horizon. The telescopes help pick out distant peaks, and the open ridge gives a clean horizon in every direction.
Good to know
- Bring a warm layer and gloves — the ridge is cold before sunrise even when the days are mild.
- Skies are clearest in autumn and winter; cloud builds through the day and is common in the monsoon.
- Linger after dawn for the Palung valley views unfolding below the ridge.
Time your visit with the best time to visit Daman for the clearest skies, and in spring combine the tower with a walk through the Daman rhododendron forests. For more dawn ideas across the country, see the best sunrise spots in Nepal and the best viewpoints in Nepal.

What time is sunrise at the Daman view tower?+
Sunrise varies by season, roughly 5:15 to 6:45 am. Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early to watch the highest peaks catch the first gold light before the sun clears the horizon, and wrap up warm as the ridge is cold before dawn.
