The Daman Himalaya Panorama

An unbroken Himalayan sweep from Dhaulagiri to Everest, arguably Nepal's widest mountain view.

The Daman Himalaya panorama is the headline reason to visit this ridge in Makwanpur. From around 2,300m the view opens into a single, almost unbroken arc of the Nepal Himalaya — widely described as the widest panorama in the country — running from Dhaulagiri in the far west, across the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre, on to Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Gauri Shankar, and reaching, on the clearest days, the distant Everest group far to the east.

Where and when to see it

The cleanest, most complete view comes at sunrise from the Daman view tower, whose open platform and mounted telescopes let you trace the whole horizon. Many ridge-top lodges and the Risheshwar Mahadev Temple area also have fine outlooks. Skies are at their most stable in autumn and winter, when crisp dawns reveal the full sweep before haze builds during the day.

Reading the skyline

It helps to know what you are looking at, west to east: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchhre give way to Manaslu, then Ganesh Himal and the long Langtang wall, with Gauri Shankar standing tall before the eye reaches the faint Everest peaks. Our Daman mountain views guide breaks the skyline down in detail.

Plan your trip around the best time to visit Daman for the clearest air, and see how this view ranks among the best viewpoints in Nepal and the best sunrise spots in Nepal.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Daman panorama special?+

Because of its breadth. From this single ridge in Makwanpur you can see an unbroken arc of the Nepal Himalaya, from Dhaulagiri in the far west to the Everest group in the east, which is rare from any one viewpoint and gives Daman its claim to the widest panorama in the country.

Which peaks can you see from Daman?+

On a clear morning the panorama includes Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna range, Machhapuchhre, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar and, far to the east, the Everest massif. The view tower's telescopes help pick out the most distant summits.

When is the panorama clearest?+

Autumn (October to early December) and winter (December to February) bring the cleanest, most stable skies, with crisp dawns and minimal haze. The view is best at sunrise; clouds and haze usually build through the day, and the monsoon often hides the peaks entirely.

Where do you watch the panorama from?+

The best vantage is the Daman view tower on the ridge, which gives an open, unobstructed horizon. Many ridge-top lodges and the temple area also have excellent outlooks, so you can often enjoy the panorama from your own terrace at dawn.
