Astrek Climbing Wall

Astrek Climbing Wall is Kathmandu's original indoor climbing wall, tucked into the traveller hub of Thamel. Getting there

Best time to go

Because it's indoors, the wall is a year-round option and doesn't depend on the weather. It comes into its own during the summer monsoon (roughly June to September), when the outdoor crags are too slick and greasy to climb safely. In the drier outdoor season of October to April, plenty of climbers still use it to warm up, train technique or wait out a grey afternoon before heading back to the rock. Mornings and evenings tend to be the most comfortable, away from the midday heat.

Thamel itself is the attraction on your doorstep — narrow streets of gear shops, bookshops, cafes and bars to explore once you've climbed.
