Ridi Bazaar
A sacred river-confluence market town near Tansen, home to the Rishikesh Temple and a revered pilgrimage site.
Ridi Bazaar is a historic market and pilgrimage town west of Tansen, set at the sacred confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Ridi rivers. Long a trading post in the hills, it is best known for the riverside Rishikesh Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and for the holy waters where pilgrims come to bathe and worship.
What to expect
The confluence is considered deeply sacred, and the riverside fills with devotees during the Maghe Sankranti festival in mid-January, when thousands gather to bathe at dawn. The Kali Gandaki here is famous for its fossil-bearing shaligram stones, prized as sacred objects. Beyond the temple, the old bazaar offers a glimpse of traditional hill trade in a setting quite different from Tansen's ridge-top lanes.
