Nagarkot View Tower

The highest accessible point on the Nagarkot ridge, with a true 360-degree mountain panorama.

Address
Nagarkot View Tower, Bhaktapur 44600, Nepal

The Nagarkot View Tower is the highest accessible point on the Nagarkot ridge and the single best spot for an uninterrupted Himalayan panorama. Where hotel terraces give you an east-facing slice of the mountains, the tower opens up a full 360-degree view — peaks in nearly every direction, with the Kathmandu Valley falling away below.

The short answer

Climb the tower for the widest view in Nagarkot. It stands at the top of the ridge, reached by a short drive and a final walk through pine forest, with a small entry fee at the top. Go at sunrise or sunset for the colour, or at midday in winter for the crispest distance views and the fewest people.

What you can see

On a clear morning the panorama is genuinely remarkable. To the west lie the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges; the centre is filled by Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Dorje Lakpa; and far to the east, on the best days, the Everest range appears as a line of distant white peaks. The metal viewing platform lets you turn a full circle without trees or buildings in the way, which no hotel balcony can match.

Getting there

The tower sits above the main village. From most hotels it is a 30 to 60 minute walk uphill, or a short drive followed by a five-minute climb. The path is easy to follow and passes through cool, shaded forest — pleasant even in the warmer months. Wear closed shoes, as the last section can be uneven.

Good to know

  • Bring cash in rupees for the small entry fee; there is no card payment on the ridge.
  • Mornings are clearest; haze often builds through the afternoon outside winter.
  • Pack a warm layer for sunrise and sunset, as the wind on the exposed platform is cold even when the day is mild.
  • Combine the climb with the early light covered in our Nagarkot sunrise guide, then walk back down for breakfast.

The tower works beautifully as the first stop in a relaxed day on the ridge. Pair it with a quiet evening at a Nagarkot sunset point, follow our Nagarkot itinerary to slot it into an overnight trip, and browse more things to do in Nagarkot for the rest of your stay. Frequently asked questions

What can you see from the Nagarkot View Tower?+

On a clear day the tower gives an unobstructed 360-degree sweep of the Nepal Himalaya, from the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges in the west across Langtang and Ganesh Himal to Dorje Lakpa and, far to the east, the distant peaks of the Everest range. Below, the green Kathmandu Valley ridges roll away on every side.

How do you get to the Nagarkot View Tower?+

It sits at the top of the ridge above Nagarkot village. Most visitors drive partway and then walk the final stretch through pine forest, or hike up from their hotel in 30 to 60 minutes depending on where they are staying. The road and trail are signposted.

Is there an entry fee for the view tower?+

A small local entry fee is usually collected at the top to maintain the site and trail. Carry a little cash in Nepali rupees, as card payment is not available up on the ridge.

What is the best time of day to visit the tower?+

Sunrise and sunset are the headline times, when the peaks glow. Midday offers the clearest, haze-free distance views in winter and the quietest crowds, though the light is flatter for photos.
