Dollu to Champadevi Hike
A forest climb from Dollu on the Pharping road up to the 2,278 m Champadevi summit shrine.
The Dollu to Champadevi hike is a quieter, gentler way up to Champadevi (2,278 m) than the busier Hattiban ridge, climbing from the village of Dollu on the Pharping road through forest to the prayer-flag summit on the Kathmandu Valley's southern rim. It makes a satisfying 3 to 4 hour round trip from the edge of the city.
The route
From Dollu the trail rises steadily through pine and broadleaf forest toward the Champadevi ridge. The climb is moderate and shaded, with a few rooty pitches near the top and the odd trail junction where a map helps. The summit is a small, atmospheric spot: a modest Champadevi shrine, fluttering prayer flags and clearings that drop away to the valley. From the ridge it is possible to traverse across toward Hattiban for a point-to-point day.
What you'll see
On a clear autumn or winter morning the summit opens to a wide view over the southern Kathmandu Valley and a line of the Himalaya — Langtang and Ganesh Himal among them. Because the Dollu side sees fewer walkers than the Hattiban approach, the forest is peaceful, with good birdlife and spring rhododendron colour. Champadevi is a minor pilgrimage point, so expect the occasional offering at the summit shrine.

Getting there
Dollu lies on the Pharping road, about 45–60 minutes south of central Kathmandu by taxi or local bus. Agree a return fare or fix a pickup, and start early to beat the afternoon cloud. If you have a car waiting, you can string Dollu, the Pharping monasteries and the Dakshinkali temple into a single day, with the Champadevi climb as the morning's centrepiece before the heat and haze build.
This climb is one of seven western and southern valley rim hikes and a fine, quiet pick among day hikes near Kathmandu. For the classic ridge approach to the same peak, see the Hattiban to Champadevi route, or warm up on the easy Pharping to Hattiban forest walk nearby.
